Welcome to Dispatches from Ziklag, a somewhat regular exploration of philosophy, culture, apologetics, theology, and the Scriptures.
Essentially, anything I think about or an studying and not directly related to technology is fair game.
What perspective is DFZ?
Politically, constitutionalist, perhaps conservative libertarian
Theologically, premillennial provisionalism
Philosophically, Molina and Plantinga
Apologetically, Schaeffer and Lewis
Further:
The Scriptures are the inspired, infallible Word of God.
Things must fit with the reality of history, the Scriptures, and together. There are no compartments.
Why Dispatches from Ziklag?
When David was cast out of Israel by King Saul, he took shelter in the Philistine city of Ziklag. This story has always inspired me because it is hard to be an intellectually curious Christian in the modern world.
The world is opposed to God, and hence not “home.”
Most mainline churches are not “home” because they assume the Scriptures are a “wax nose” to be twisted in whatever way necessary to support their progressive, worldly-wise agenda.
Most deeply conservative churches are not “home” because although I’m married, I have divorce in my history—divorce and remarriage are things you just don’t do.
Many other churches are not “home” because they are openly anti-intellectual. They denigrate Christian education and deep theological study is simply not welcome.
Where does this leave me? Far too often, in Ziklag.
Are comments welcome?
Yes, always—whether you agree or disagree. On the other hand, anytime comments drop into Bulverism or ad hominem attacks, they will be quashed. No nastiness, no calling people names, no nonsense.
Who am I?
I am not afraid to call myself an intellectual—someone who makes their living using their mind. My background includes:
A Ph.D. in Apologetics and Culture
An MACM in Biblical Literature
A BSIT and an MSIT
Some 45 publications, including books, recorded training, articles, and peer-reviewed journal articles
MENSA lifetime member
Many decades studying philosophy, apologetics, and the Scriptures.
